Most portraits are painted in a traditional head and shoulders pose. However, you may wish to have a zoomed in, cropped portrait of the face which will look more dramatic and contemporary.
If you are unsure of what style you would like your portrait or would like to get some ideas I will be happy to make suggestions that may assist you..
Photographs
I work from photos for portraits as most clients find this more convenient. The final result is dependent on good quality photographs being supplied so please read the information below on what makes a good image and some do's and don'ts regarding lighting and pose.
I usually work from one main photograph but having additional pictures also helps me to understand the subject in more detail so sending several is preferable. If you are wanting a double portrait please supply an image that includes both subjects together. Although I can amalgamate two different photos into a single painting the results are never as good.
Medium
I work in pencil, acrylic and oil. Drawings are worked on paper so will require mounting and framing by the client; acrylics will be painted on on acrylic paper or canvas. If you are wanting a box canvas that will be simply hung on the wall without a frame please advise me of this at the time of ordering, otherwise all acrylic paintings will be on standard canvas that can be framed.
Size
What size of portrait you require can depend on which medium you wish me to work in. I have listed prices for standard sizes but if you have something larger in mind or non-standard please contact me to discuss. The sizes are for the paper or canvas, once you have them framed they will be larger except for a box canvas which will be hung unframed. Drawings will include a white border to allow for mounting.
Ordering
When you decide to commission a portrait I ask for a £5 deposit (this is paid by electronic payment into my bank or Paypal account - whichever is easier for you) Portraits can take up to 2 to 4 weeks to complete due to the time consuming nature of painting so please bear this in mind if you are wanting one in time for a particular date or event. I will email you a proof of the finished portrait and only when you are completely happy with it will the balance be due.
Online or Offline Ordering
If you are interested in ordering a portrait all that needs to be done is email me on the contact page of my website with your enquiry and I will get back to you within 24 hours. I am very happy to assist you in what will work best.
Photographs need to be clear and taken in good light. Natural light is advised as indoor lighting can effect colours. High resolution digital images should be emailed to me. Most people use phone cameras which are acceptable as long as they are good quality, clear and high resolution. This differs between handsets so using an actual camera is still preferable to ensure good quality pictures.
